Since it was founded in 1999, TEOR/éTica started a publishing program that currently offers more than fifty publications on art from Latin America, with an emphasis on Central America and the Caribbean. This program includes exhibition catalogues, books on theory, about different matters in contemporary art, and publications that rescue important local historical figures that redefined contemporaneity in their contexts, such as Margarita Azurdia, Emilia Prieto, Rosa Mena Valenzuela and Rolando Castellón. In 2016, the printed publications project was reactivated after a pause. The purpose was to find new ways of contributing to global debates from a local, critical perspective, producing research books and experimental formats, as well as monographic publications and exhibition catalogues.
Our publications include:
- Exhibition catalogs and books, which include essays and interviews that allow an in-depth look at topics related to curatorial projects organized by TEOR/éTica.
- Local Writings. Critical positions from Central America, the Caribbean, and their diasporas, a series of monographic books that compile manifestos, essays, chronicles, manuscripts, testimonies, or interviews by a diverse group of curators, thinkers, cultural critics, and artists of the region. The purpose of these publications is to build local knowledge and divulge thought produced in the region throughout the last decades.
- Essential Writings series, anthologies of key texts to consider certain debates within contemporary art in Latin America. The book Agítese antes de usar is the first in this series. A collaboration between TEOR/éTica and the Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires (MALBA), it tackles the topic of art and education in the region.
- Buchaca magazine, a periodic digital publication that documents important projects carried out in TEOR/éTica and Lado V. It aims to further reflect upon and share the different ways of doing, and knowledge that converges in TEOR/éTica.
We are interested in establishing publication exchanges with other cultural institutions or publishing houses, as well as making donations to libraries or non-profit institutions that are willing to cover the shipping costs. If you are interested, please write to the following email address: email@example.com
