The exhibition New Fantasies borrowed its name from “New Fantasy,” one of the many brothels located in Barrio Amón, San José, just a few blocks away from TEOR/éTica. The exhibition explored thematic lines such as prostitution and sexual tourism—both common in Costa Rica—as well as gender performance; it critically observed power relations in America’s colonial past and economic dominations in the present. These texts further delve into the exhibition’s themes, making crucial contributions to the understanding of the relation between subjected bodies (especially women’s) and colonized territories.
