This publication is the second volume of the Situations program, which has sought to outline various aspects of artistic production and critical thinking regarding Latin American art as part of one of TEOR/éTica’s main objectives: to foster greater mutual understanding of our stories, practices, dynamics and desires. This second volume of Latin American Artistic Situations is the result of a continental encounter that took place in August 2005 in San José, Costa Rica. The essays in this book, developed from the notion of critical art and art crisis (Tamara Díaz Bringas), cover topics such as “critical nationalism” (José Roca), problems such as the urban renovations that happen so arbitrarily in Latin American countries (Rodolfo Kronfle), educational programs organized by José Luis Blondet (Dia Beacon), the “strategic provocations” in relation to the art produced in the Caribbean islands (Orlando Hernández), and a reflection on art and ethics (Lupe Álvarez).
