Description

In 2020, many questions on the state of the cultural landscape began to arise due to different work situations that were exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. These questions motivated us to explore the relationship between art and economy in an attempt to find ways in which cultural work can be reconciled with less exploitative and crushing forms of remuneration and labor practices.

In order to delve deeper into the territory of common economies, we invited Cráter Invertido (Mexico), Atendido por sus propietarios (Colombia), Artistas Autoconvocades (Argentina), La Ruidosa Oficina (Costa Rica), and Paula Piedra (Costa Rica) to share their experience with solidarity/affective economies, as well as to reflect on alternative models of management and sustainability.

Through this Buchaca, we wish to imagine other possibilities that can help mend some of the tensions that arise from a system that inevitably has logics that conflict with the arts, and perhaps trace alternative routes to deal with a current reality that is full of uncertainty.
