ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
Guión 2 – VPR Collection
2013
This was the last outline curated by Virginia Pérez-Ratton in June 2010. Mauricio Aguilar assisted the installation and mounting of the exhibitions.
Room 1: SILENCES
There are many ways of working with human silence, this can go all the way from a placid painting that calls for a subtle reflection, to disturbing works of art that depict the loneliness of several characters inhabited in them.
Room 2: LIMITES GRAFICOS (Graphical Boundaries)
Drawing, intaglio, monotype, luminous images, or a video that builds up words with demolition elements, these are different ways of approaching the global context and the city, with its boundaries and limits, immersed in it.
Room 3: DESASTRES (Disasters)
The omnipresence and effects of armed conflict in our lives is a recurring subject of art nowadays. The posture artists can have regarding this subject are as diverse as individual. Variation can go from language to subject theme, from ruin to confinement or from the contradictions of humanitarian help in war, to war casualties.
Room 4: OTRO PAISAJE (Another Scenery)
Sculpture, drawing, photography and assemblage are used to refer to a diverse tropical surrounding… This room approaches unprecedented or diverting aspects of our urban or rural surroundings in a poetic manner, charged with a certain sense of nostalgia.
Main Room: LUZ Y MOVIMIENTO (Movement and Light)
In this room, a series of objects, videos, audio and lit billboards are used to refer to the complex relationships between public and private space, the familiar and the unknown. On one hand it makes reference to a domestic and automated mechanic iconography and on the other, to the inapprehensible nature of the vital experience.
HALL:
The artists present here remind us that political remark, premonitory announcements, descriptions regarding present times, and even reflection itself are not at odds with humor.
BATHROOMS:
Seeking for a way to alter the evident sense of a bathroom, photography and graphic artwork that will provoke unexpected reactions have been included in this space, be it to create a complete dissociation or insist in the obvious use of such place.
PATIO: NOSTALGIA LUDICA (Ludic Nostalgia)
This room is filled with a sense of melancholia, were game, chance and the domestic clearly coincide. Traditional assemblage elements are counterpoised with bolder proposals.
